{"id":792,"date":"2012-12-15T20:34:39","date_gmt":"2012-12-15T20:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/?p=792"},"modified":"2015-04-13T13:55:24","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T12:55:24","slug":"how-to-get-your-facebook-page-deleted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/2012\/12\/how-to-get-your-facebook-page-deleted\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Get Your Facebook Page Deleted"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 4<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes : <\/span><\/span><p>This blog post has been written in response to several conversations that I have had with people and twitter comments that I&#8217;ve seen over the past couple of months about Facebook pages.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that there are many marketing experts out there who are advising people to create Facebook pages that break the terms and conditions of use and could lead to the pages being\u00a0arbitrarily\u00a0deleted costing the business at the least a little\u00a0embarrassment\u00a0and loss of time or could even lead to a loss of reputation.<\/p>\n<p>The best thing, from the marketing experts point of view, is that any comeback falls on their client as they are the ones that are ultimately responsible for the page. \u00a0Of course what will happen to the marketing companies reputation when word gets around that they give out bad advice is another matter.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There are two main areas where Facebook pages seem to fall down :-<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cover Images<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most people seem to understand the guidance that says &#8220;<em>Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties&#8217; intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines.<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/276329115767498\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/276329115767498\/<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page_guidelines.php\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page_guidelines.php<\/a>) but where a lot of pages that I&#8217;ve see that have taken &#8220;professional&#8221; advice seem to fall down is on the same pages where it plainly states that \u00a0cover pages &#8220;<em>may not contain:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><em>Price or purchase information, such as &#8220;40% off&#8221; or &#8220;Download it at our website&#8221;<\/em><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><em>Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help?faq=%20160672070698623\">About section<\/a><\/em><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><em>References to user interface elements, such as\u00a0<b>Like<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<b>Share<\/b>, or any other Facebook site features<\/em><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><em>Calls to action, such as &#8220;Get it now&#8221; or &#8220;Tell your friends&#8221;<\/em>&#8220;<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-793 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Facebook1-300x109.jpg\" alt=\"Facebook1\" width=\"300\" height=\"109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Facebook1-300x109.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Facebook1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter that (as I&#8217;ve heard said) &#8220;everyone is doing it&#8221; or &#8220;all you are doing is pushing the boundaries a little&#8221; &#8211; if your page is reported, or Facebook finds it, there is every chance that it will be deleted without warning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-794 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/facebook2-300x109.jpg\" alt=\"facebook2\" width=\"300\" height=\"109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/facebook2-300x109.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.forestsoftware.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/facebook2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The two images above demonstrate some of the problems, they have been taken at random and the web addresses\/phone numbers and names have been removed from the screen shots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Promotions and competitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How many times have your seen a tweet or a facebook post that says &#8220;like our page to win&#8230;&#8221; ?<\/p>\n<p>If you read the terms and conditions (that you did read before you created your page didn&#8217;t you?) at\u00a0<a title=\"Facebook guidelines\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page_guidelines.php\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/page_guidelines.php<\/a> you will see that &#8220;<em>You must not condition registration or entry upon the user taking any action using any Facebook features or functionality other than liking a Page, checking in to a Place, or connecting to your app. For example, you must not condition registration or entry upon the user liking a Wall post, or commenting or uploading a photo on a Wall.<\/em>&#8221; (section E iii). \u00a0You would also have seen &#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>iv.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotion\u2019s registration or entry mechanism. For example, the act of liking a Page or checking in to a Place cannot automatically register or enter a promotion participant.<\/em><\/p>\n<div><em>v.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You must not use Facebook features or functionality, such as the Like button, as a voting mechanism for a promotion.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>vi.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages.<\/em><\/div>\n<p>I personally know of several pages that have been closed down simply because they broke the very simple rules above. Imagine the heartache if you have spent ages getting followers to your page and building up a raport with your followers only to wake up one morning to find that the page has been deleted, not to mention the possible damage that it could do to your business reputation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Differences between timelines and pages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Did you realise that there is a difference between, normal, timelines and pages? \u00a0Do you run your business page on your timeline ( something that large businesses may not do but smaller businesses such as crafters may be guilty of)? \u00a0According to Facebook there is a large difference between pages and timelines &#8220;<em>Timelines are for personal, non-commercial use only. They represent individuals\u00a0and\u00a0must be held under an individual name.\u00a0Pages\u00a0are for professional or official use,\u00a0and\u00a0allow an organization, business, celebrity or band\u00a0to maintain a presence on Facebook<\/em>.&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/217671661585622\/?q=cover%20pages%20terms%20and%20conditions\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/217671661585622\/?q=cover%20pages%20terms%20and%20conditions<\/a>).
